Synology Inc. today unveiled FlashStation FS3017 at Computex 2016, which won Computex Best Choice Award, marking the company’s entry into the all-flash array market. Also showcased at the show are Synology Router RT2600ac – a powerful addition to its networking product line, surveillance applications, as well as a series of new NAS servers designed for home users, small-to-medium businesses (SMBs), or large enterprises.
FlashStation FS3017
FS3017 is Synology’s first product in an entirely new all-flash-array series dedicated to providing unparalleled data transfer speed. Delivering over 200,000 IOPS in 4K random writing with iSCSI over RDMA enabled, the Intel-Xeon based FS3017 remains affordable at the low total cost of ownership of 0.52 USD per GB, one of the lowest in the market for this class of servers. To reach this level of performance, the technical specifications of FS3017 are the most impressive in Synology’s lineup: dual Intel Xeon processors, up to 24 drives (from mainstream SATA/SAS SSDs avoiding vendor lock-in), and market leading support for 10/25/40GbE NIC.
The built-in Snapshot and Replication application replicates 65,000+ backup copies to offsite servers, bringing near-instantaneous data protection and ensuring data in shared folders or virtual machines in iSCSI LUNs remain available in the event of disaster. It fully supports all major virtualization solutions, such as VMware, Windows, and Citrix. In addition, support for VMware Site Recovery Manager allows for starting disaster recovery directly via VMware vCenter Server, thus simplifying the recovery process.
Synology Router Manager (SRM) 1.1
The upgrade of the much applauded operating system of Synology Router, Synology Router Manager (SRM) 1.1, is also showcased at the show. Designed with advanced users and network administrators in mind, Synology Router Manager 1.1 delivers intelligent network management experience that goes beyond the scope of common wireless routers: Smart Connect lets devices connect to the most suitable band automatically for best Wi-Fi connection; Smart WAN provides capability of automatic network failover or load balancing to ensure uninterrupted network connectivity; Intrusion prevention including the intrusion detection system (IDS) and intrusion prevention system (IPS) services help protect network from outside attacks.
Synology Router RT2600ac
Following the success of the award-winning router – Synolgy Router RT1900ac, Synology brings an exciting new addition, Synology Router RT2600ac, to its networking product line. Equipped with high performance 1.7GHz dual-core CPU, RT2600ac provides up to 2600 Mbps speed and dual-band wireless connectivity, and the much anticipated 4x4 MU-MIMO support that ensures seamless concurrent multiple devices streaming. Moreover, the additional USB 3.0 port and SDHC UHS-I/SDXC UHS-I ports guarantee high speed data transmission. To user’s excitement, the popular file syncing suite – Cloud Station – is coming to SRM 1.1, allowing users to turn the Synology Router into a private file syncing cloud.
Surveillance Station
For those seeking a powerful surveillance system, Synology showcases the latest Surveillance Station 7.2 and its tools for creating an automated, integrated surveillance deployment, as well as the brand new desktop client for Surveillance Station. When connected with I/O modules, Surveillance Station can serve as the central hub of various automation devices such as LED lights, electromagnetic locks, and motion detectors. In addition, the upcoming desktop client allows users to access Surveillance Station flexibly without needing to log in with a web browser. Furthermore, the deployment with Synology Central Management System (CMS) is now optimized with support for QuickConnect and HTTPs and combined notifications.
DiskStation DS916+ and DS416play
A series of new Synology NAS servers were showcased, among which the major highlights are DS916+ and DS416play. Powered by Intel Pentium quad-core CPU, DS916+ delivers outstanding performance exceeding 225 MB/s reading and 221 MB/s writing. When transferring encrypted data, DS916+ also achieves 225 MB/s reading and 209 MB/s writing. With flexible scalability up to 9 drives and two memory options of 2GB and 8GB, users could enjoy greater flexibility in storage management, concurrent connections, and virtualization.
DS416play, the consumer-centric four-bay NAS server equipped with Intel Celeron dual-core processor, achieves faster processing performance exceeding 225 MB/s reading and 186 MB/s writing under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows® environment. DS416play features single channel 4K Ultra HD or triple-channel full HD video transcoding on the fly, and its dual gigabit LAN offers failover support which ensures service continuity in case of network failure
